7/22/15 DG Visit
About 20 members and guests attended this morning’s regular club meeting. In addition to District Governor (DG) Glade Hamilton, other guests included Area 16 Assistant Governor Linda Sappington and Lisa Mueller from the Rotary Club of Baldwin-Rockville Center, New York.
It was an honor to have our DG Glade Hamilton visit the club this morning. This was his fifth visit out of 49 clubs in District 5420 so we were also lucky to receive him early in his tenure.
The DG talked about how as Rotarians, we don’t need a disaster or a tragedy to become heroes. Rotarians are heroes in many ways by serving in their communities and making a difference around the world, such as the efforts to eradicate polio which is truly “this close” with only 29 cases so far this year.
He talked about the Rotary Theme for this year which is “Be a Gift to the World” and challenged us to find ways to do that by increasing club membership (more people means we can do even more), increasing our giving to the Rotary Foundation (which funds the war on polio, as well as district and global grants for many projects at the local and international levels) and sponsoring young people to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp this fall.
So, let’s use the individual gifts we have all been given to make a difference in our community and the world (keep that thought in mind while you’re standing on the hot pavement collecting parking fees for the fair in a few weeks)!
